“Blood Pools At Church Steps” – Safety and Security in Houses of Worship

Pastor Michael Allen of Uptown Baptist Church tweeted those words after a gunman opened fired on a group of people standing near a bus stop outside the church.  According to a Chicago Sun-Times report, at the time of the shooting, about 175 people were eating tacos in a church outreach ministry meal to the homeless.  One victim collapsed on the church steps and lay near death. 

Commission on Accountability and Policy for Religious Organizations Report Released

The Commission on Accountability and Policy for Religious Organizations was formed in 2011 to advise Senator Grassley on a number of current federal tax laws affecting religious organization in the US.  Last week, the Commission submitted a 60-page report proposing recommended changes to the law prohibiting Section 501(c)(3) organizations from intervening in political campaign activity.

The August 12, 2013 edition of the National Catholic Register reports continuing IRS scrutiny of pro-life organizations, despite the recent public outcry over the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups.  The article featured comments made by attorney Sally Wagenmaker, co-founder of Wagenmaker & Oberly, LL
